ABSTRACT

BACKGROUNDSchizophrenia (SCZ) is a severe, debilitating, and complex psychiatric disorder with multiple causative factors. An increasing number of studies have determined that rare variations play an important role in its etiology. A somatic mutation is a rare form of genetic variation that occurs at an early stage of embryonic development and is thought to contribute substantially to the development of SCZ. The aim of the study was to explore the novel pathogenic somatic single nucleotide variations (SNVs) and somatic insertions and deletions (indels) of SCZ.

METHODSOne Chinese family with a monozygotic (MZ) twin pair discordant for SCZ was included. Whole exome sequencing was performed in the co-twin and their parents. Rigorous filtering processes were conducted to prioritize pathogenic somatic variations, and all identified SNVs and indels were further confirmed by Sanger sequencing.

RESULTSOne somatic SNV and two somatic indels were identified after rigorous selection processes. However, none was validated by Sanger sequencing.

CONCLUSIONSThis study is not alone in the failure to identify pathogenic somatic variations in MZ twins, suggesting that exonic somatic variations are extremely rare. Further efforts are warranted to explore the potential genetic mechanism of SCZ.

ABSTRACT

This paper introduces a monitor that can monitor five physiological parameters (ECG, blood pressure, spo2, respiration and temperature) based on Wireless Sensor Networks. The monitor will be applied to hyperbaric oxygen chambers. After acquisition, the signal will be displayed on the LCD screen of the monitor terminal in the cabin. At the same time, the Zigbee RF module will send the signal to the extravehicular guardianship PC terminals. This monitor equipment can realize synchronous real-time monitoring both inside and outside. What's more? A host can also display monitoring data the three monitor terminals collected. Preliminary clinical tests show that the monitors are safe and the monitoring results are satisfactory.

ABSTRACT

This paper introduces an eight channels dada acquisition system. A peripheral circuit based on C8051F340 MCU has been designed and its USB controller is used to transfer data, which realizes real-time detection, display and storage of bowel sounds. The system has many advantages such as high precision and stable performance, and thus provides a new means for the bowel sounds study.

ABSTRACT

Objective To design and develop a portable multi -parameter life sign monitor. Methods Electrocardiogram (ECG). blood pressure(BP), breath frequency (BF), heart rate (HR) and body temperature (BT) in real time were recorded with a single-chip microprocessor 8Xc196Mc and a high-resolution (640×200) graphic liquid crystal display (LCD) through sign al detecting and processing techniques. Results This system cou ld display the ECG wave, and other parameters in real time dynamically. It could also provide a 24 hours trend graph for each parameter measured and exchange th e data through the serial communication interface (RS232) with the PC. C onclusion This portable monitoring system is capable of performing cont inuous monitoring and also has the capability to resist environmental interferen ce through the added design, so it can be used widely.
